Ghekiere about strong World Cup: ‘One of the best days on a bike’

It is almost unbelievable: two years ago Justine Ghekiere took her first steps in the professional peloton and last Sunday Lotte Kopecky from Kachtem helped to get the rainbow jersey in Glasgow. However, she only had to play a role in the first 60 kilometers, but to her own surprise she succeeded much longer. “It really was one of the best days on my bike. When Lotte became world champion, it was really a goosebumps moment,” says Ghekiere.

“There were no earphones, so I really didn’t know anything. I didn’t know what the situation was for me when I was released. But then the last lap started and then suddenly the audience shouted ‘Lotte is world champion!'”

Zurich 2024

Next year the riders will compete for the world title in Zurich, and then there may be more to Justine than a 22st place like this year. Although the AG – Soudal Quick-Step rider first wants to focus on the end of the season.

She is under contract with her team for another year, but her achievements have not gone unnoticed. “I will not deny that there is already interest from other teams. But I am very good at AG. My contract has another year, I don’t think too much about what will happen within a year,” Justine concludes.
