What season did you go through?
It was a difficult season. Actually my least good season and we ended that with a prize. And also not an unimportant price. That turns out again, because it has been a while since AZ won him.
In the three years that I was with AZ, we had the aftermath of the DSB affair. We had to cough up thirty million euros to the curators in three years. That was agreed, because otherwise the license from AZ would be endangered. So we always had to sell our best players. Think of Rasmus Elm, Pontus Wenbloom, Ragnar Klavan, Niklas Moisander, Aaron Gudmundsson. I can call a whole team that has left. Every year the objective remained to get European football.
That makes it all the better, right?
Certainly! We even had to look more down. We really had a difficult season. We even stood in the right row. At the end we started to play football better and that has displayed in the cup final against PSV.
It was the only opportunity for us to get European football. There was a lot of adjacent. A prize is a prize and it was a long time ago that they had won the cup.
