Gert Verhulst apologizes to Bertje, the 80-year-old who was “too old” to attend ‘Gert’s table’ | TV

TVBertje de Man (81) contacted our editors after she wanted to register to be in the audience of ‘Gert’s table’, but was rejected because she is over 80. According to the production house, it was an error on the website. Bertje was invited to attend Thursday’s episode and received an apology from Gert Verhulst (56) himself during the broadcast.

During the broadcast, Gert asks Bertje again what exactly went wrong. “I had been here before when it was still ‘The Table of Four’ and I wanted to experience another episode,” she says. “I entered my name and date of birth – including the year 1942. But I suddenly got an error message. “Visitors must be between 16 and 80 years old,” it says. “That’s discrimination, I thought,” she continues.

“And you immediately call the newspaper?” asks presenter Gert Verhulst with a monkish laugh. “I had to respond immediately,” says Bertje. “So I sent a message to the well-known tip line of HLN and VTM NIEUWS: 4040,” said the 80-something.

But as the production house Dedsit claimed, the exclusion was not done consciously. “We have now discovered that we have a technical error and have already contacted In The Picture (the platform on which people can register, ed.) to resolve this as quickly as possible,” he said earlier this week. But now Verhulst wants himself also offer his sincere apologies to Bertje. “It was a setting on the website that we were not aware of. So Bertje, our apologies.”
