As expected, the German pentathletes clearly missed out on a medal at the start of the World Championships in Alexandria. The junior duo Marc Spletzer and Moritz Klinkert did not get past ninth place in the relay with 1386 points.
South Korea (1427) secured the victory ahead of hosts Egypt (1419) and the Czech Republic (1408). The supposedly strongest German Patrick and Marvin Dogue were rested for the individual.
Last year, the German team won a complete set of medals at the World Championships in Cairo with one gold, one silver and one bronze.
The actual top athlete Annika Schleu does without the title fights after the riding scandal in Tokyo. However, the 32-year-old recently announced that she wanted to continue her career until Paris 2024.
The World Cup runs until next Sunday, the women’s relay takes place on Monday.
