Germany risks shortage of pitches for caravans | To travel

Caravans in Germany are becoming so popular due to corona that the pitches are gradually running out. This is reported by an industry group. More and more Germans and Europeans are choosing to go on holiday in motorhomes or mobile homes.

There is “great demand” for new and used recreational vehicles across Europe, the German Caravan Industry Association in Frankfurt said. The sector has been growing for ten years, but saw renewed interest due to the corona pandemic, which made international air travel difficult.

The Federal Republic of Germany has about 1.5 million recreational vehicles, of which 740,000 are caravans and 767,000 motorhomes. For motorhome enthusiasts, the trip is a holiday in itself.

The increasing number of recreational vehicles is putting pressure on Germany’s tourism capacity, the association said. Although there is no shortage of standing places for the time being, some busy areas are already reporting bottlenecks.

Germany needs more infrastructure quickly, according to the association, because the popularity of caravan holidays is unlikely to decline any time soon.
