Germany’s retailers also felt the reluctance of many consumers to buy in August. Adjusted for price increases (real), according to calculations by the Federal Statistical Office, sales fell both compared to the previous month (minus 1.2 percent) and compared to August 2022 (minus 2.3 percent).

In nominal terms, revenue fell by 0.8 percent from July to August of the current year, as the Wiesbaden authorities announced on Friday. In this view, price increases resulted in an increase of 2.3 percent, at least compared to the same month last year.
