Germany has been a white spot on the Formula 1 world map for years. But now there could be movement in the matter – due to a significant change.
Is there the long -awaited comeback of the “premier class” in Germany? The motorsport fans in the Federal Republic are apparently allowed to hope for a return of Formula 1 to Hockenheim. Both the racing series and the route operators consider a Grand Prix in Baden-Württemberg to be possible, which was public on Thursday.
“There is no question that we as a Hockenheimring have great desire for Formula 1 and we are very happy that there is obviously a bilateral interest,” said Jorn Teske, Managing Director of the Hockenheimring, the sports information service (SID): “We are happy to take the ball and statements from Stefano Domenicali to get back into more intensive contact.
He reacted to statements from Formula 1 boss Domenicali. In conversation with Italian media, he had pointed out serious “interest from Portugal, Turkey and Germany”. Hockenheim was last hosted Formula 1 in 2019.
The new owner structure in Hockenheim can now give a decisive impulse. “The fact that we now have private investors on board will definitely come into the topic,” said Teske: “Because our new shareholders are all Petrol Heads, but also very good business people with a far -reaching network.”
Because: Until this summer, Hockenheimring GmbH was in public hands, the city now sold three quarters of the shares to an investor group. Behind this are five German companies that had previously been active on the ring on business.
Reason for optimism: This can take a new evaluation of the economic risks. Because in the years before the preliminary farewell, the problem of the German routes had become more and more the framework conditions with the high inaugural charts. The Formula 1 races always threatened to become a loss.
“Supreme premise”, according to Teske, is of course “still that the economic load capacity of a model is given to align Formula 1.” There is therefore now the great interest of “plugging in the more precise conditions and finding out how the ideas of Formula 1 are. As far as the exact current numbers are concerned, we are still gripping in the dark.”
