The German table tennis players have reached the quarter-finals at the World Team Championships in South Korea.

Xiaona Shan, Nina Mittelham (both TTC Berlin Eastside) and Sabine Winter (TSV Dachau) won their first knockout round game against Sweden 3-0 on Wednesday. The opponent in the round of the top eight is France on Thursday. As European champions in 2023, national coach Tamara Boros’ team had already secured qualification for the Olympic Games in Paris in the summer before this World Cup.

The DTTB women made it into the knockout round undefeated. In the round of 16, Xiaona Shan opened with a confident 3-0 win against Linda Bergström, while Mittelham had to go the full distance in her 3-2 win against Christina Kallberg. Sabine Winter then scored the first German match point with a 3-0 win against Filippa Bergand.

The German men then fight for a place in the quarter-finals – and the associated qualification for the Olympic Games in Paris. Dimitrij Ovtcharov’s team, also without defeat so far, will face Iran.
