German U21 wins against Estonia: debutant Reitz scores twice

European Championship qualification

The German U21 footballers remain on track in the European Championship qualification. In the 4-1 (1-0) win against Estonia in Paderborn on Friday evening, coach Antonio Di Salvo’s selection celebrated their third win in the third game. This gives the DFB team the chance to take an important step towards group victory against Poland on Tuesday (6 p.m.). The Poles have played one more game and have twelve points.

In front of 5,493 spectators in Paderborn, Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier took the deserved lead at halftime (39th) after a long, fruitless run. After the break, Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko increased the score to 2-0 (53′), before the outsider reduced the score to 1-2 out of nowhere through Danil Kuraksin (64′). Debutant Rocco Reitz from Borussia Mönchengladbach then made everything clear (88th/90th+4).

The nine group winners and the three best runners-up will qualify for the final round, which will take place in Slovakia in 2025. The six remaining group runners-up will compete in playoffs to determine the final three participants.
