German Triathlon Union finds new coach

After a year and a half, the German Triathlon Union has hired a head coach again.

Dutchman Louis Delahaije returns to the federation, succeeding Faris Al-Sultan, who has been out of the post since September 2020. Delahaije (55) had already looked after the German triathletes from 2004 to 2006.

“After a vacancy for the head coach position for around one and a half years, I am very happy that we were able to fill this important position with a proven triathlon expert on the Olympic distance,” said DTU sports director Jörg Bügner: “I’m confident that we can achieve our goals with him ambitious goals for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.”

Delahaije was the last triathlon coach in the Netherlands, in Paris he is supposed to lead the German team to the first medal since Jan Frodeno’s gold in Beijing in 2008. “Of course it is also my goal to meet the requirements set by the association for Paris 2024,” he said.
