At the tennis tournament in Montreal, the two top German players Siegemund and Maria faced each other. It became an iron -hard duel.

Wimbledon quarter-finalist Laura Siegemund (Metzingen) has reached the second round of the Masters tournament in the Canadian Montreal in an iron-hard duel of the two best German tennis players. The 37-year-old defeated Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) on Monday in a three and a half hour heat and slice battle 7: 5, 6: 7 (6: 8), 7: 6 (7: 2). She earned a Wimbledon revanche against Australian Open winner Madison Keys from the USA.

Eva Lys also stands in the second round due to a rheumatism as a rheumatism with a 6: 1, 6: 4 against Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean.

Siegemund, number 54 of the world rankings, decided the narrow first set against Maria (number 41) in front of a few spectators nervous, especially thanks to significantly more profit strokes and a clearly better quota on the first surcharge. She lost the second sentence in the hot midday sun on the blue hard court after four match balls, in the third she still grabbed problems despite considerable impact problems. Victory and overall, more than 100 times came online. In Wimbledon she had surprisingly clearly defeated Keys in the round of the last 32 with 6: 3, 6: 3.

Maria (37), on the other hand, sensationally won the preparation tournament in the London Queen’s Club, but was eliminated in Wimbledon in the first round. Most recently, German number one also failed in Washington at the first hurdle.
