The 18 -year -old Phillip Tonn is one of the greatest talents in motocross. But the German has suffered a setback.

Corresponding to Phillip Tonn: The Supersport 300 pilot seriously injured in a training accident. The 18-year-old plunged on a motocross route in Apolda (Thuringia) on Tuesday evening and suffered several complicated breaks.

“Phillip lives next to the route and trains almost every day,” team boss Carsten Freudenberg told the portal “Speedweek.com”. “At around 5 p.m. Tuesday evening, he drove how the accident happened, we don’t yet know 100 percent.” When falling, Tonn broke the right upper and lower leg, as well as the left shoulder blade.

Tonn had been flown to a clinic by rescue helicopter and is currently in the intensive care unit in Thuringia. He is available and not in mortal danger. However, surgery is not yet possible because Tonn has cheated on the lungs in the fall. “Speedweekcom” reports only when its condition has stabilized and the lung function normalized that general anesthesia can be carried out. Four to five interventions should be necessary.

According to Team Freudenberg, Tonn’s mother contacted specialists at night to ensure the best medical care. “It is precisely that with the shoulder is a very important point for a racing driver, with all the brake forces – a lot is done over the shoulder and upper body. It is quite difficult with a broken shoulder blade,” said team boss Carsten Freudenberg.

Out of respect for Tonn, the Freudenberg team will not nominate a replacement driver at the upcoming race weekend in Assen. Jeffrey Buis will be the only driver to compete for the team. “Then we look at the situation in peace how we drive in Most and Misano,” said Freudenberg. Tonn will definitely not be able to start there. This is followed by a three-month summer break in the 300 class. The next run was scheduled in Magny Cours in early September.

Tonn had only recently convinced: According to the team boss, he took a “huge step forward” over the winter, both in the tests and the start of the season in Portimão. There he drove at eye level with his team-mate Jeffrey Buis, the two-time super sports 300 world champion.
