At the German Championships in Berlin, the Magdeburg -born prevailed over half a distance two days after his success over the 400 m – in the world’s best time. The 23-year-old secured the title in 1: 44.25 minutes on Saturday and remained again under the World Cup standard (1: 46.30).

“I felt very good, so I wanted such a time. That it worked out like that is of course a dream,” said Märtens.
