He is one of the most sought-after directors from Germany-and now Edward Berger is shooting with one of the biggest Hollywood stars: Brad Pitt. For his next project, the Oscar-winning filmmaker has caught the “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” main actor. Together they bring the drama “The Riders” to the big screen – based on the novel of the same name by the Australian author Tim Winton.

The director Edward Berger, who comes from Wolfsburg, is celebrated internationally-at the latest since his Oscar-winning works such as “In the West nothing new” (2022) and “Conclave” (2024).

Edward Berger starts new major project with Brad Pitt

The project is financed by the renowned production company A24 and brought to cinemas worldwide, reports “Variety”. Berger directs, while Brad Pitt will be seen in the leading role as Fred Scully. The script comes from David Kajganich, known for productions such as “Invasion” (2007) and “The Terror” (2018).

The story: After a long trip to the European trip, Fred Scully and his family move to Ireland. But at the airport he experiences the shock of his life: only his little daughter Billie arrives – there is no trace of his wife. No letter, no hint, nothing. The desperate search for the truth begins – and a drama about loss, family and identity takes its course.

The role of a father in a family crisis Brad Pitt is probably not entirely unknown – not least because of his own past, which was overshadowed by allegations of behavior towards his children. Since the much -noticed separation of Angelina Jolie in 2016, the family of negative headlines and years of custody has been shaken.

Filming in Europe from 2026

The shooting should start in early 2026 and take place at several European locations. Berger continues his international career: He recently staged the Netflix drama “The Ballad of a Small Player” with stars like Tilda Swinton and Colin Farrell, which is to be released this year. His Vatican thriller “Conclave” (2024), who revolves around the choice of a new Pope after the fictional death of Pope Francis, was not only a financial success, with over 100 million euros in the world, but also won the Oscar for the best adapted script.

Brad Pitt also has his hands full. The Hollywood icon in “F1” will be shown before shooting, an action film about Formula 1 that will be released worldwide in June. There is also a Netflix film with the cult character Cliff Booth from “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” (2019)-staged by David Fincher, written by Quentin Tarantino.
