German snowboard debacle on Simonhöhe

The German snowboard team experienced a debacle at the World Cup on Simonhöhe.

Ramona Hofmeister, who is leading the overall World Cup, failed to qualify in the parallel giant slalom, while Melanie Hochreiter and Elias Huber were eliminated in the round of 16.

The day’s victories in Austria were secured by local hero Sabine Schöffmann and the Italian Daniele Bagozza.

“That was so unnecessary,” said Hofmeister after her early exit. Because of her mistake, she gave away important points in the fight for another overall victory.

The athlete from WSV Bischofswiesen has already finished a World Cup season three times as the best raceboarder. The 27-year-old has already won four races this winter.

There is another mixed team event on Sunday at Simonhöhe.
