A German gold medal at the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo is more valuable than ever – at least as far as the bonus from the German Sports Aid Foundation is concerned.

30,000 euros instead of the previous 20,000 euros will be paid out for gold in the upcoming games. For silver there is 20,000 euros (previously 15,000 euros) and for bronze it is still 10,000 euros. Sporthilfe announced this three days before the opening ceremony. According to a decision by the Bundestag, these premiums are tax-free.

“Olympic success must be prepared for a long time and meticulously. The task of Sporthilfe is to accompany talents at an early stage and to support them as a reliable lifetime companion throughout their entire career,” said Karin Orgeldinger, Board Member for Promotion of the German Sport Aid Foundation.

All German starters in northern Italy have been supported by the foundation throughout their careers; on average they have been supported by Sporthilfe for almost nine years.

With a funding period of 26 years and four months, Tobias Arlt has been supported in the German Olympic team for the longest time, followed by his toboggan doubles partner Tobias Wendl (24 years and one month). Both have won six gold medals at the Olympic Games. In Cortina they are once again among the narrow favorites.
