Biathlon World Cup in Le Grand-Bornand
Podium places far away – DSV men disappoint in the sprint

Philipp Horn’s podium finish last week raised hopes of another good sprint result. But in France only one DSV athlete is now clear at the shooting range.
The German biathletes clearly missed out on a top placement in Le Grand-Bornand. In the sprint on Friday, Philipp Nawrath was the best in the DSV team in tenth place – but he was a long way from making it to the podium.
Nawrath had to accept a penalty loop and ended up 26.2 seconds behind the clear winner Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen from Norway. Without a mistake, Nawrath would have been enough for the podium. “That’s annoying at first. If you look at the table, it was close, but it’s still a good result,” said Nawrath on ZDF.
Justus Strelow was the only German starter who didn’t miss a shot and also made it into the top 15: He finished 13th, 35.1 seconds behind the leader.
David Zobel (1 mistake) was 18th, Simon Kaiser (2 mistakes) 23rd. Philipp Horn had big problems at the shooting range. After four errors, he finished more than 1:21 minutes behind and missed the top 30. Danilo Riethmüller (3 errors) fell even further back and ended up outside the top 50.
Christiansen took victory ahead of his compatriot Johannes Dale-Skjevdal (2 errors/+3.5 seconds). Local hero Emilien Jacquelin (1 mistake/+5.0 seconds) made it onto the podium in third place.
The pursuit races continue on Saturday. The women start at 12.15 p.m., including Franziska Preuß, who wants to attack again after her long break. The men follow at 2:45 p.m. The mass starts conclude on Sunday.
