The German long jumper Mikaelle Assani must be operated on at the European Halle Championships after her violent fall. “For me, a crack and a partial tear of two tendons of the Hamstrings were diagnosed,” wrote the 22-year-old on Instagram for her thigh injury.
Behind their open-air season with the World Championships in Tokyo in September there is a big question mark. As the German Athletics Association (DLV) announced, Assani will be operated on on Monday in Heidelberg. “The diagnosis is very bitter, we all hoped for a less serious injury,” said DLV sports director Jörg Bügner.
Assani had fallen to her last attempt in Apeldoorn at the Dutch in Apeldoorn at the weekend and had to be brought out of the hall with a wheelchair with a wheelchair. At the start, she got stuck in the plastic track at full speed and could no longer intercept.
“This is my first major injury and marks the beginning of a new chapter in this book called Life,” wrote the athlete and thanked her friends and family for the support.
