What a home for the German hockey teams: after the men, women have now also moved into the final.

Big cheers in the Mönchengladbach hockey park: One day after the men’s finals, Germany’s hockey ladies also reached the final at home. The young team of trainer Janneke Schopman prevailed 1-1 (0: 1) and 3: 2 in the shootout against Belgium on Friday evening – and meets on Sunday (5 p.m./MagentaTV) in the final on record winner Netherlands.

The hosts caught a dream start: Ines Wanner from TSV Mannheim scored in the third minute after the first penalty area for early lead. But Belgium, which became second in 2023 and 2017, equalized by Alix Gerniers and forced the shootout.

There Lena Micheel became the match winner for the DHB team. The attacker converted the crucial attempt and Germany secured the ticket for the final. For Schopman it is the first final since took office – against her home country. “You are not invincible. I believe that we can beat anyone,” said the Dutch with a view to the duel against Oranje.

The Netherlands had previously moved into the final by a 3-1 against Spain. Three goals from Yibbi Jansen made the fourth victory in the fourth tournament game-and the favorite’s twelfth EM final.

Germany convinced with strong duel behavior and a quick switching game, but was also lucky: Lena Micheel missed the great chance of 2-0 shortly before the equalization when she failed at the Belgian goalkeeper. Lilly Stoffelsma was also unsuccessful with a penalty corner shortly before the break.

For the first time since 2013, both DHB teams are back in an EM final. At that time, men and women scored the title-they were the last German European Championship triumph so far.
