German gymnastics champion ends her career among tears

The German gymnastics record champion Elisabeth Seitz ends her career. This was announced by the 31-year-old in tears immediately before the Women’s all-around final at the European Championships in Leipzig. “It was a journey full of ups and downs, full of dreams, hard work, tears and infinite passion,” said Seitz, who also announced that she was expecting youngsters: “Now a new chapter begins for me and I look forward to the future with anticipation and excitement.”
The European Championship in the Leipzig exhibition hall should have been its last step on the big gymnastics stage. But a shoulder injury braked the European champion from 2022. “I’m so grateful,” said Seitz.
The Stuttgart native did in 2009 at the World Championships in London at the age of 15, and in 2011 she secured silver at the European Championship in Berlin. Overall, the expert won four EM and a World Cup medal and took part in three Olympic Games. With 26 championship titles, she is a record title wearer in German women’s gymnastics.
