The German national football team clearly missed out on making it to the final in their European Championship comeback.
Head coach Christian Rothe’s team lost 9:30 in the prestigious duel with defending champions Austria on Saturday evening in Krefeld’s Grotenburg Stadium. This means that the game for third place against Italy will be on Tuesday; the American Football Association of Germany (AFVD) had set the title as its goal.
After disputes at association level, the German team last took part in a European Championship when they won the title in 2014. Back then, the three-time European champions (2001, 2010, 2014) won against Austria in a dramatic final in Vienna, but the German team was subsequently unable to defend the title.
Germany did not qualify again for the European Championship final tournament for the four best teams until October 2024. In the final, Austria will face European Championship record winners Finland, who beat Italy 9-8.
