Bob Hanning is one of the most prominent faces of German handball. But soon the 56-year-old will be in action for another country.

Bob Hanning faces a new challenge: the former DHB Vice President is the new coach of the Italian national handball team. This will replace the 56-year-old Riccardo Trillini, who has looked after the team for almost eight years. Hanning is to be officially presented this Friday in Oslo-the final weekend of the World Handball Championship is currently taking place. Previously, the newspapers reported “Dolomites” and “Flensborg Avis”.

“It was and is always a pleasure to develop something great. Everyone knows that and that has been the case in all of my functions in recent years. Now I stand full of joy and in parallel to my task in Germany New adventure Italy, “said Hanning, Managing Director of Füchse Berlin, in a message.

Italy’s national team has recently caused a sensation. When you participate in the first World Cup for 28 years, the selection was surprised with victories against Tunisia, Algeria and the Czech Republic. In the main round, the team around Bundesliga professional Domenico Ebner had to surrender to the German team. Experts certify the selection of great potential.

For Hanning it will be the first task as a national coach. Nevertheless, he has plenty of experience: he led VfL Potsdam from the 3rd league to the Bundesliga and already trained HSV Hamburg over 20 years ago. Already in the previous year he had emphasized that working with an emerging nation would particularly irritate him.

Despite his engagement in Italy, Hanning will remain managing director of the German runner -up Füchse Berlin. The close connection could bring advantages for both sides – this was already shown by a current transfer: On Thursday, the Berliners announced the commitment of the Italian international Leo Prantner.
