The German giant had been granted a permit for the 200-megawatt lithium-ion battery project in April last year. They can store 800 megawatt hours of electricity, eight times the amount of the largest parks that are currently active in our country.
But the development of what could become the largest project in Europe was suddenly halted last week, ‘De Tijd’ learned. RWE refers to the decision of the Belgian government to keep the last two nuclear power plants open for ten years longer.
The German group is still leaving the door ajar for battery projects in our country. “We are not ruling out a new, large-scale battery project at another location in Belgium,” it sounds.
