Laura Gimmler and Sofie Krehl from Oberstdorf proved their top form right at the start of the Tour de Ski.

Gimmler achieved her best result of the cross-country season in eighth place in the freestyle sprint in Val Müstair, as did Sofie Krehl in ninth place.

The victory of the day and thus the lead in the overall standings went to the Swiss local hero Nadine Fähndrich.

The German tour hope Katharina Hennig followed in 28th place and thus fulfilled the requirement for a good performance in the overall classification.

The team sprint Olympic champion, who has her strengths in distance races and wants to show off over ten kilometers for the first time on New Year’s Day, started despite a slight cold.

Friedrich Moch with a career novelty

In the men’s category, Friedrich Moch (Isny) made it into a sprint quarterfinal for the first time in his career and was the first German this winter to finish 17th.

Moch had caused a stir last year when he surprisingly took third place in the final of the tour up to Val di Fiemme.

Olympic champion Johannes Hösflot Kläbo from Norway took his fifth win of the season.
