German cycling star is hope for tour podium

It is a debut that has left an impression so far. The German cycling professional Florian Lipowitz could still achieve great things at the Tour de France.
Lipowitz completed the 12th stage in third place and only had to give the exception star Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard. He also shone with a fourth place when it comes to time trials on Friday. After 13 stages, Lipowitz is fourth in the overall classification. Only six seconds behind it separates it from the third -placed Remco Evenepoel.
Lipowitz therefore says that he also feels “a little more pressure”, but emphasized on Friday: “On the whole, it is very beautiful to see that many fans are there and that the support from home is so big.” The 24-year-old is realistic, explained with a view to the overall classification: “If you are honest, Pogačar and Jonas are out of reach. But I think we definitely have good cards in the fight for third place.”
He added: “I don’t want to look too far now. But everything is possible.” Officially, Primož Roglič is the captain of the German team. The Slovenian put a strong time trial on the 13th stage, but is in seventh place in the overall classification, with one minute and twenty seconds behind Lipowitz.
Zabel also emphasized: “Florian is only really starting the Tour de France now. The heavy mountain stages are only now coming and I think he will play out his strengths.” On Saturday it goes to the famous Col du Tourmalet.
In any case, Rick Zabel believes that the German vertical starter could take on the leadership role in the future. “I definitely trust Florian to be captain of a team. I think it is only a matter of time before he will also take this position with the ‘Red Bull – Bora – Hansgrohe’ team. Next year Florian will definitely drive whether it is the tour directly.”
