According to German media, they are allowed to fill their tank and also import another 20 liters in spare containers. The fifty-year-old took it a little further. He had filled eight containers with 200 liters of diesel.
Police caught the man returning to Germany after his refueling session. Agents also called in customs. The driver was then presented with a hefty bill. He owes the tax authorities 750 euros. In addition, the police fined him 1500 euros for the risky way in which he transported dangerous substances.
The illegal attempt to import fuel comes at a time when Germans are faced with huge bills at the pump. Motorists’ organization ADAC reported on Wednesday that fuel prices have never been higher.
