Even years after the end of her career, the former German top biathlete Laura Dahlmeier does not think about lazing around. The 28-year-old has now presented her first mountaineering film in Munich.
Laura Dahlmeier dominated the biathlon world between 2015 and 2019 before she gave up her gun and skis in her mid-20s. But even after she left the competitive circus, the sports enthusiast from Garmisch always stayed active.
As part of the Bavarian Outdoor Film Festival (BOFF), the two-time Olympic champion, who was invited as a guest of honour, presented her first mountaineering film entitled “United by Summit – From Biathlon to Extreme Climbing”.
In recent years, Dahlmeier had discovered mountaineering for himself. Together with the famous “Huberbuam” (Alexander and Thomas Huber) she climbed the 4809 meter high Mont Blanc and documented this ascent for the public.
Biathlon legend Dahlmeier on her “most important and best motivation”
“So far I’ve only known it from the other perspective and I’m often there as a spectator. Now I’m particularly curious how it will be received by very close friends. I hope that people think it’s great,” said the former top athlete “munich.tv”.
Dahlmeier continues: “I did it for myself. I think that’s the most important and best motivation.” In the end, a “cool film” was made.
Dahlmeier was considered the figurehead of German biathlon until her retirement.
With two gold and one bronze medal, she was the most successful DSV starter at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. A year earlier, the former customs officer had won five titles at the World Championships in Hochfilzen.
