The German biathletes Vanessa Voigt and Julia Kink took part in a very special race after the World Cup final. However, the podium places in the Swiss community of Realp went to other nations.
As part of the so-called Five Nations Ski Trophy, the competition over 10 kilometers took place on Wednesday. The special thing: a cross-country skier and a biathlete each formed a team.
The cross-country skier completed the first round alone, the biathlete completed the second. Afterwards we continued together on the cross-country ski trail.
The victory went to the Italian duo Beatrice Laurent and Linda Zingerle (2 shooting errors). Behind them, Cloé Pagnier and Justine Braisaz-Bouchet (+4.5 seconds/3 errors) from France crossed the finish line. Lydia Mettler and Aita Gasparin from Switzerland (+10.5 seconds/2 errors) completed the podium.
The German-Austrian duo Charlotte Böhme and Tamara Steiner took fourth place (+14.6 seconds/1 error).
The German cross-country skier Helen Hoffmann came sixth together with biathlete Vanessa Voigt (+1:16.2 minutes/2 errors). Verena Veit and Julia Kink finished one position behind (+2:30.8 minutes/5 errors).
Biathlon world champion wins over 5 kilometers
France’s biathlon star Braisaz-Bouchet had already triumphed in the 5-kilometer cross-country skiing race on Tuesday, underlining her outstanding running form. Beatrice Laurent had to admit defeat in the finish sprint and ended up just 0.5 seconds behind the five-time biathlon world champion. DSV runner Helen Hoffmann (+2.1 seconds) came third.
The two German biathletes Voigt and Kink also started here. Voigt finished eleventh, 48 seconds behind. Kink finished in 14th place, 54.1 seconds behind.
