The German basketball women confidently kept their nerves in their last group game against Great Britain and squeaked for the quarter-finals.
At 80:67 (48:32) on Sunday (June 22nd, 2025) in Hamburg, the game was practically decided after the first quarter. After a 0-2 deficit, the DBB women started a 12-0 run, the Britishes hardly let air came to a breath and played over Luisa Geiselsöder, Alexis Peterson, Leonie Fiebich and Emily Bessoir. With 26: 8 we went into the first quarter of the quarter, everything looked like a smooth march.
The lead shrinks to five points
But in the feeling of safe victory, carelessness crept in. The British designed the second quarter significantly more balanced and won it with 24:22. Even in the third round, the “Flow” of the DBB team did not return sustainably, after 25 minutes the lead over five points was melted together.
Head coach Lisa Thomaidis pulled the ripcord and took a break, after 30 minutes it looked much better again after a goal from Alexis Peterson.
Quick decision in the final quarter
The decisive factor was the start of the last quarter: Germany immediately put pressure on, defended strongly and continuously expanded the lead. Great Britain always tried to hold fully against it, but when Clara Bielefeld screwed the score to 80, the resistance was broken.
