Gerard Joling has appeared in front of a TV camera for the first time since his violent outburst, but the Shownieuws reporter should have stayed at home. “Relaxed?”
It is an incident of violence that, according to some critics, should be questioned: Gerard Joling kicked and hit a 17-year-old boy last week while he was already on the ground. The boy in question had thrown beer in Geer’s face, was asked by him on stage and a skirmish ensued.
In front of the camera
Geer is a crowd favorite, so something like that slips off easily, but out of a sort of way damage control he has carefully tried to avoid all media over the past week. That worked, until yesterday. Then he performed at Oranjepop, just like artists such as Django Wagner and Marco Schuitmaker Show news was there.
Celebrity expert Bart Ettekoven: “Gerard has of course not yet stood in front of a camera. He keeps it all very quiet, he has told us bits and pieces to Evert, but has not given any interviews. But tonight he was there and we asked him what it is like to go on such a stage and how he looks back on it.”
‘Tent is full’
How does Gerard feel before the performance? “The tent is full, it’s warm, so take off the jacket and we’re going to have a blast!”
The reporter on duty: “Are you going on stage feeling a bit relaxed?”
Gerard: “Always, yes. I always go on stage relaxed. I often come off very relaxed, so it goes completely well.”
The reporter: “There’s always something happening to you, right?”
Geer: “It’s not a life where you say: we’re sitting on the couch getting sour or something, so things are going well.”
‘The pleuris’
Well, that Shownieuws reporter had better just stay at home on the couch next week, because we obviously won’t gain anything from this. You really don’t have to act like Mariëlle Tweebeeke on such a festival site, but you will still be sent away from the school newspaper with questions like this.
Anyway: at the desk Patty Brard tells us that she has also had beer in her face. “And it really scares the hell out of you! I don’t even mind beer that much, but the fact that you get either the can or the glass or the cup in your face… You really scare the hell out of me. I understand that you want to talk to someone…”
