On television, Gerard Joling delivers a sensitive sneer to Paul de Leeuw, who is currently at the lowest point of his TV career in terms of content and viewing figures. “Not so low please!”
The second, extra-long season of the Gerard Joling soap starts on Saturday on RTL 4 and it will not be easy for the singer, because this year he has to contend with the strong competition of Wie is de Mol for the first time. The first series was a great success, but now the question is whether the entertainer can keep it up.
Abdominal wall
How does Gerard keep viewers glued to the TV? He surprised in the first season with a major cosmetic operation. Is he going to do something like that again? “I think I’m going to get a tummy tuck. No, I’m not going to do anything.”
He continues: “If I were to do something, like raise my eyelids a little or whatever, people would be allowed to see that. I have no problem with that at all. Look, it doesn’t make you any younger, but it is refreshing.”
Tough competition
What does Gerard think about the fact that he will soon be standing opposite Wie is de Mol? “Yes, it is of course tough competition, but I believe in my own strength and the real-life soap is so much fun that I hope I can hold on to people and hey, you know, what difference does it make?”
Then he delivers a sharp sneer to TV colleague Paul de Leeuw: “As long as I score a little higher than Ranking the Stars, then I will be very satisfied.”
Enjoy
Celebrity photographer William Rutten thinks it is a painful reference to the worst season of Ranking the Stars ever. “Hahaha. Ooh, just a little joke,” he says at the desk.
And Private Boss Evert Santegoeds: “Yes, that was a joke. Last time it was installed on a Friday evening and it was an extraordinary success. I think it will be enjoyable again for many people.”
