George Cox signs a two-year contract with FC Volendam

FC Volendam has strengthened itself with 25-year-old George Cox. The left wing defender has signed a two-year contract in Volendam with an option for one more season. Cox is the successor to Derry John Murkin, who left for Schalke 04.

Cox played more than 100 games in the Premier League for Fortuna Sittard. The Worthing-born footballer went through the youth academy of Brighton & Hove Albion and was also loaned out to Northampton Town for six months. He then left for Sittard where his contract expired this summer.

“I am very excited about this project. I am going to give everything for the team and hope that we can get the best out of each other in the coming period,” said Cox. Technical director Jasper van Leeuwen is also happy with the latest acquisition. “All in all, George is the type of player who makes our team stronger and vice versa, we look forward to developing him further in the coming years,” says Van Leeuwen.

The Volendam team could use some reinforcement, because the club is winless at the bottom of the Premier League after four matches.
