SI predict that Monday will be complicatedon Monday 18 May, especially for transport: USB, the grassroots trade union, has proclaimed a 24-hour national general strike which will involve transport, schools, healthcare and public administration. Ferrovie dello Stato has announced that the agitation will affect staff from 9pm on Sunday to 9pm on Monday, regional and long-distance trains may be subject to cancellations or delays.

In healthcare, specialist visits, tests and non-urgent interventions could be postponed, while in schools, lessons will depend on whether teaching staff and ATA belong to the union or not. Atac has already announced that buses, trams and subways will be guaranteed within the guarantee periods, from the start of service and then from 5pm to 7.59pm. In Milan, ATM warned that the service could be reduced or suspended in some time slots. At the basis of the protest are the requests made by the USB against rearmament and Italian involvement in international conflicts. The union calls for greater investments in wages, welfare, pensions, health and safety at work, denouncing the progressive impoverishment of public services and the increase in the cost of living for families.
