Eurovision left a bad taste in my mouth this year, and the reason is not Finland’s sixth place, writes Iltalehti news manager Emmi Oksanen. Eurovision tasted particularly bad this year. The reason is not pre-favorite Finland’s 6th place, that is a good ranking, but Israel’s 2nd place. There has always been political voting in Eurovision, but where before you voted for a like-minded guy, i.e. a neighboring country, now you vote for killing. The song contest, which is inspired by the unifying power of music, does give flowers to diversity, different genders and sex-positivity, but at the same time, the contest has hijacked the sadness as a vote of support for Israel, which is bombing Gaza.
