The police arrested a person on Dussekstraat in Tilburg on Sunday who is suspected of opening a gas tap. This happened after a number of homes were evacuated around 6 p.m. after local residents reported that there had been a smell of gas for two days.

After the fire service had measured a high concentration of gas, part of the street was closed and the emergency services turned out en masse. “The fire brigade was in time to turn off the tap and luckily it was prevented from getting worse,” the police said on Twitter.

The house where the gas tap was open turned out to be empty. It is not known what caused the open tap. Enexis has closed the gas pipeline to the building.
