Gas leak in Monnickendam: childcare children must stay indoors for a short time

A gas leak occurred during work on the Avegaar in Monnickendam around 12 noon. According to a spokesperson for the safety region, a noise barrier was placed there, which hit a gas pipe. There was no danger to the area, but local residents had to close their windows and doors because of the stench.

There is also a childcare center next to the school, where the children had to stay indoors for a short time. According to the spokesperson, there was no immediate danger to the children. “We immediately took measurements, but there was no dangerous situation. However, the childcare center decided to keep the children indoors, so that there was more overview.”

According to the spokesperson, the children might otherwise approach the fire brigade while playing outside.

Liander reports that the gas leak could be stopped again around 2:30 p.m. The children can now enjoy the (overcast) outdoor play weather again.
