Alarm in Berlin-Spandau! A high-pressure gas line at a construction site on Brunsbütteler Damm burst on Wednesday afternoon at 3:17 p.m.! A leak is currently still leaking gas. But people are not in danger.
As a spokesman for the fire brigade said, Gasag, as the network operator, had started the repair work. First, the pressure in the 3.3 bar line was reduced. In the immediate danger area, the fire brigade evacuated more than 100 residents, including many older people.
A supermarket was also cleared. Four residents suffering from diabetes and respiratory diseases were taken to ambulances as a precaution in order to be able to check them medically.
Those affected were accommodated in a day care center and in two BVG buses.
According to the fire department spokesman, it will take at least “three to five hours” to close the leak. The reason: Gasag needs special equipment for this, which first has to be brought to the scene of the accident.
It is still unclear why the line burst. The spokesman did not want to comment on whether it could have something to do with the construction work on the line: “The determination of the cause is then a matter for the police.”
