Elise Chabbey ride winner, Urska Zigart new leader in Romandia
2.28 pm: The Swiss cyclist Elise Chabbey has won the second stage of the Tour of Romandy. It was an arrival uphill in La Tzoumaz. The rider of FDJ-Suez defeated the Slovenian Urska Zigart in a sprint. The Dutch Yara Kastelijn followed third at some distance.
Zigart, who drives for AG Insurance – Soudal, took over the leader’s jersey from the Spanish Paula Blasi. For the 32-year-old Chabbey it was her first victory at Worldtournest. In the rankings she follows eight seconds from Zigart, the girlfriend of Tour winner Tadej Pogacar.
The Tour of Romandy ends on Sunday with a hill ride with start and finish in Aigle, where the international cycling union UCI is located.
On Friday there was commotion after five cycling teams, including Visma – Lease A Bike and Picnic PostNL, were given a starting ban because they refused to adhere to the rules for the implementation of GPS trackers as a test for a new safety system.
Marco Bezzecchi benefits from Crash Marc Márquez and takes pole
12.32 hours: Motorcycle racer Marco Bezzecchi has packed his first pole position of the MotoGPS season. At the Grand Prix of Austria, he set the fastest time in a messy qualifying session. The Italian finished for Alex Márquez from Spain. The Italian Francesco Bagnaia finished third.
Bezzecchi benefited from a crash of classification leader Marc Márquez, who starts from fourth place. It is Bezzecchi’s fifth pole position in his career and his first since the Grand Prix of India in 2023.
In the Moto2 the Dutchman Collin Veijer starts on Sunday from the ninth position. The Spaniard Daniel Holgado starts from pole.
The Sprintrace for the MotoGP takes place on Saturday afternoon, the main races are Sunday.
Joan García and Marcus Rashford entitled to play for FC Barcelona
11.28 am: Barcelona trainer Hansi Flick can rely on goalkeeper Joan García and attacker Marcus Rashford on Saturday in the away match against Mallorca. Both players were registered at the last minute by La Liga, the organization behind the highest Spanish football classes.
García was taken over from fellow Espanyol this summer and has to replace the injured Marc-André ter Stegen in the goal. Rashford is rented from Manchester United. Both players could not be registered before. For García, space arose when Ter Stegen signed a document in which he indicated that he could not keep to not goalkeeping for at least four months due to an injury. According to Spanish media, the club has created space in the financial household for the salary of the Brit Rashford by selling half of the transfer rights of the Portuguese Francisco Trincão to Sporting Portugal.
Barcelona opens the season at 7.30 pm on Mallorca.
