What percentage of the province is agricultural area? How narrow is the narrowest house in Noord-Holland? And which municipality from the province has the highest biodiversity? These and a number of other quiz questions had to make the participants aware of the challenges that Noord-Holland has to deal with.
If all plans in the province are implemented, Noord-Holland is short of 27 percent space. For that reason, sharp choices must be made about what will happen to space and residents can talk about it.
Ideas of residents
Apart from the quiz there was also a map of the Netherlands on a table, with several colors around it. The colors symbolized, for example, agriculture, energy, industry and nature. In this game there were consciously placed more colors than the available space on the menu.
“You have to imagine that we want to live, work and recreate somewhere, you need room for that,” says Deputy Esther Rommel (spatial development). “That means you have to make choices.” Ultimately, the province wants to hear what residents of the environment want, so that those ideas can be taken. “And here in Haarlem we will eventually make those choices.”
Campaign
Since April 30, residents can think along and give their opinion. The province asks North Hollanders to respond online, but several meetings are also being organized.
