“Game of Thrones”: These spin-off ideas were preferred not to be implemented

From Aegon’s conquest to a series starring the Dornishman Nymeria, several unused concepts for Game of Thrones spin-offs have been revealed – the first spin-off, House of the Dragon, is due out on August 21st.

House of the Dragon is based on George RR Martin’s novel Fire & Blood. However, the concept was just one of many that could be considered for a spin-off series. According to “The Hollywood Reporter” there were a total of 15 drafts – all based on Martin’s book. Casey Bloys, HBO’s chief content officer, said: “We’ve tried everything. There weren’t any ideas that were too weird.”

Based on these concepts, five prequel ideas were included in development. In addition to House Of The Dragon and Bloodmoon, a screenplay about the destruction of the ancient Targaryen empire of Valyria by Max Borenstein was being considered. “Bloodmoon” was canceled after filming a pilot. HBO explains, “It wasn’t unsightly or awful or anything. It was very well produced and exceptional looking. But it didn’t take me to the same place as the original series.” Other ideas include a story about the Dornish warrior queen Nymeria and Aegon’s conquest of Westeros, where he is portrayed as a “drunken chump”.

Some “Game of Thrones” spin-off ideas are already in the pipeline – a Jon Snow sequel series was recently announced. There are also three animated series in the works, including The Golden Empire, set in the land of Yi Ti. House of the Dragon is slated to hit theaters on August 21.
