Game in Braunschweig: Fortuna Düsseldorf – with humility to the top of the table?

As of: October 27, 2023 4:03 p.m

After the atmospheric win against Kaiserslautern, Düsseldorf travels to the previously dismal bottom team Braunschweig in an extremely contrasting manner. The championship lead beckons.

A lavish party, like… sensational 4:3 against Kaiserslautern in front of a sold-out home crowd, expected Fortuna Dusseldorf on Friday (October 27th, 2023) in Braunschweig probably not. It’s something of a contrast to the top game in Düsseldorf last matchday.

Düsseldorf could take over the top spot for the time being

Nevertheless, the game is of great relevance for both clubs. Düsseldorf could make another statement with a win and even be at the top for at least one night 2nd league take over. Fortuna would establish itself in the circle of promotion candidates – and Braunschweig would be followed by two more opponents from the lower table regions: Wehen Wiesbaden and Fürth.

But caution is advised for the Rhinelanders: Bottom team Braunschweig changed their coach and it is difficult to predict whether this will release new forces. The Fortunes had a bad experience playing against the bottom of the table two weeks ago. It was called Osnabrück at the time and managed a draw on the Rhine at the last second. “You have to be humble. Braunschweig can do something too. But we will try to play just as well against the last team as we did against the first team,” said coach Daniel Thioune.

Braunschweig with a new coach

The game is almost even more important for Eintracht: the Braunschweigers finally want to show that they belong in league two. This didn’t really work well under former coach Jens Härtel. There are only five points on the account so far. The gap to 15th place is already seven points. Losing in Düsseldorf is actually forbidden.

Interim coach Marc Pfitzner is hoping for the effect of the change on the sidelines: “Maybe the cards will be reshuffled and there will be a little sense of optimism at first.” Nevertheless, it will be “very difficult to get out of the situation”.

In Düsseldorf, on the other hand, there is no sign of heaviness – more of hope for euphoria with positive results. Because the next lavish festival with a full stadium is already on the horizon: at the end of November in the local duel against Schalke 04.
