Leroy Sané is probably moving to the Turkish Süper Lig. This surprises, but underlines the ambitions of Galatasaray Istanbul – Bayern Munich.
On the first day in Istanbul, Leroy Sané witnessed, of which many rave about: the limitless enthusiasm of Turkish football fans. At 1.30 a.m. on Thursday, i.e. in the middle of the night, hundreds made a pilgrimage to the airport, while up to 2.5 million people pursued the Livestream of Sanés arrival.
“There were many offers. But Galatasaray as a whole impressed me very much. I was very impressed by the atmosphere of the size of the club, how much you wanted me” said Sané. The last contract details are to be clarified on Thursday, then the transfer -free change would be perfect. Sané’s contract with Bayern ends on June 30th.
Galatasaray wants to get involved in the Champions League
Under all of the “Many offers”, These include some from the English Premier League and FC Bayern, Sané chooses Galatasaray. It appears like a sporting step backwards in the best football age of 29, because in the UEFA ranking, which determines the starting places in the Champions League, Turkey is still in tenth place behind the Czech Republic.
However, Galatasaray thinks great, says Tuncay Özdamar. He heads the Turkish editorial office of the WDR broadcaster Cosmo and is an intensive observer of the league as a galatasaray fan. “Galatasaray is on the way to becoming Turkey’s Bayern Munich – and finally wants to be successful in the Champions League”, “ says Özdamar.
Three masters in a row
In the past season, the Champions League against the Young Boys from Bern was already in qualifying round, and the year before, Galatasaray had made it into the group phase. With the latest championship title, a Champions League place in the coming season is guaranteed again, including thick income.
Galatasaray has become champions three times in a row, most recently with double and nine points lead over pursuer Fenerbahce. Behind it gaped a gap from a whopping 20 points to third place (Samsunspor). The permanent rivals Besiktas (fourth place) and trabzonspor (seventh place) followed even further back, the gap in the league grows – similar to how it was in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich.
Double -digit Million-Netto content for Sané
The success seems to encourage the club to lure Sané with a rumored double-digit million-net content, probably co-financed by sponsors and encourages Victor Osimhem’s personnel. A year ago, Galasaray managed the coup to borrow the highly assessed Nigerian attacker because the SSC Naples wanted to get rid of Osimhen after a dumping.
The 26-year-old hit fully, scored 37 goals across competitions in 41 games. It is unclear where Osimhen ends up after the end of the loan business, but he now has cult status in Istanbul. “Trainer Okan Buruk has the call to be able to maintain a good relationship as difficult to be considered to be difficult”, says Özdamar. He also got a grip on the Argentine international Mauro Icardi, at Inter Milan and Paris St. Germain.
Size German -speaking Group in the squad
The large German -speaking group at Galatasaray is also part of the feel -good program for Sané. Eight cadre professionals were born or grew up in German-speaking countries: Ismail Jakobs (Cologne), Ahmed Kutucu, Kaan Ayhan (both Gelsenkirchen), Kerem Demirbay (Herten), Eyup Aydin (Heidenheim), Gökdeniz Gürpüz (Duisburg), replacement goalkeeper Güvenc (Neu-Ulm) and Yusuf Demir (Vienna). In German, Berkan Kutlu from French Switzerland and the Hungarian Roland Sallai, six years at SC Freiburg, can also be active.
In management, too, Galatasaray relies on a German-Turk as a development director, the former journalist Fatih Demireli. Born in Munich, he described his role in Sport1 as: “As soon as the scouting team comes the green light and the sporting leadership in the person of the coach gives you okay, my part comes. Then I contact and try to advance the deal.”
He said to the German Clique: “A lot of German is spoken, so other players already start learning German so that they understand what we talk all day long.”
Jupp Derwall started
Özdamar suspects a plan behind it. “Galatasaray has had good access to the Bundesliga for a long time. Jupp Derwall has set the course as a coach in the 80 years. Since then, Galatasaray has had an affinity for the German football school.”
Even if the league is still lagging behind, journalist and fan Özdamar Galatasaray sees sports well. “With Davinson Sanchez in central defense and Lucas Torreira in midfield there is a strong axis.” With Sané, the next step is now to take.
