Gabriel Clemens is the first German to be eliminated from the Darts World Cup in London’s Alexandra Palace. The Welshman Robert Owen was too strong and won 3-1.

Clemens, who sensationally made it to the semi-finals of the most important event of the darts year two years ago, also failed in his second round match because of himself: his odds on the double fields with which you have to end a leg were catastrophic.

Only 13 percent after two sentences

The 41-year-old from Saarwellingen, who had expressed his ambitious ambitions to the sports show before the World Cup, had a doubles rate of only 13 percent after the first two lost sets – the unseeded Owen took advantage of this mercilessly.

When the game seemed almost lost at 0-2, Clemens turned things up again. Suddenly he seemed more relaxed, won the third round and shone at the beginning of the fourth set with a spectacular 143 finish, which he hit over the triple 19, the triple 18 and the double 16.

A quick rebreak was the knockout

Clemens caused the many German fans in the hall to go wild, but immediately afterwards he received the rebreak and ultimately lost the round 1:3.

Clemens, who was ranked 27th in the “Ally Pally” and therefore had a bye in the first round, is now in danger of falling out of the top 32 in the world rankings. That would have consequences for a whole series of tournaments next year.

Pietreczko and Gotthardt are further

In the evening session, Niko Springer challenges last year’s semi-finalist Scott Williams from England. The German sextet (World Cup record) Ricardo Pietreczko and Kai Gotthardt won their opening matches. Florian Hempel will take part in the tournament on Friday evening, Martin Schindler will make his first appearance on December 22nd.
