The photo of the pope is centrally at the front in the Sint-Salvators Cathedral in Bruges, which attracts more than one million visitors every year, especially tourists. Those who want can write a message in the funeral register and the believers can also burn a candle.

Wim Vervaeck, spokesperson Diocese of Bruges: “In a funeral register you can note something, a prayer for the deceased. Just a small testimony of how the deceased encouraged you. Or a small prayer intention for the Pope. For many that is an important sign to write it down.”

In the Bruges Cathedral there is also a special memorial mass for the Pope with Bishop Lode Aerts on Sunday at 10 am.
