It was a sunny day today. The mercury rose to spring-like temperatures of about 15 to 16 degrees. The terraces in Assen therefore filled up and the open-air swimming pool De Leemdobben in Vries opened its doors for the first time this year today.
“Have a nice drink and enjoy,” says a tourist on a terrace on the Brink in Assen. “We are having wonderful weather.” The neighbors’ terrace is also packed. “This is of course wonderful and that in February,” says a woman. She is already wearing her sunglasses, but she thinks it is still a bit too early for summer clothes. “Yesterday I was still wearing my winter coat,” she explains.
“I heard the birds chirping and the sun rose and then the spring fever started to come,” says another sun worshiper on the terrace. “So I thought: we’re going to make the most of this by having a bite to eat on a terrace.”
Open-air swimming pool De Leemdobben in Vries was able to open for lap swimming this morning. The pool had to close temporarily over the past two months because the water could not be heated to an acceptable temperature. The recent snow cooled the water.
Today the water was 23.5 degrees. Warm enough to open the pool. And the radiant sun felt like ‘an extra gift’ to lifeguard Carin Kroezen. “In the first hour we already had ten swimmers,” says Kroezen. “And at the end of the morning we have 57 visitors. That just makes me very happy.”
“I’ve been looking forward to this so much. We haven’t been able to swim here for so long because of the weather,” Marion Goris says happily. She is a regular visitor to the open-air swimming pool and therefore missed the swimming pool. “Swimming indoors is not a good alternative for me, so if this pool is closed I won’t swim.”
She continues: “I’ve known for a week that the weather was going to be nice today and I only heard on Monday that the pool was opening. Wonderful!”
