There are 550 places and they were occupied this morning, just like the evening before (when entrance tickets were required). “We thought we would walk here from our house, nice on Christmas morning,” says one of the visitors. “From the Indische Buurt. Javaplein. So it’s a nice trip.”
“There is a lot going on in the world, of course,” says Pastor Eric Fennis. “So you also notice that people are looking for some kind of support. That is also possible in the church. That is why, as I hear from other colleagues, the Christmas celebrations are much more crowded than usual.”
Another visitor indeed said that she believes there are trouble spots everywhere in the world, which makes her want to connect with others through faith. Some also thought about people who are lonely at Christmas. “I actually think about everyone. And I hope we are doing well. And that we are kind to each other.”
There will also be a freely accessible church service tomorrow morning in the cathedral.
