Bundesliga club Mainz 05 has information from “PictureAccording to the newspaper, in the search for offensive reinforcements, they refrained from transferring Rapid Vienna striker Marco Grüll. The 25-year-old, who is one of the most valuable professionals in the Austrian Bundesliga with an expiring contract (for an overview), should also be the focus of Werder Bremen, VfL Bochum and Union Berlin.

The Rheinhessen, however, had held intensive discussions with the attacker in the past few weeks, but ultimately decided to refrain from making an official offer to the Viennese. A loan preferred by the FSV is not possible due to the four-time national player’s current contract situation; it is said that the Mainz team does not want to meet the transfer fee expected due to the interest in the player. According to reports, Rapid is demanding at least one million euros to let Grüll grow in the winter. With 18 scorers in 23 competitive games, the 1.82 meter tall left winger is one of the top scorers in Austria this season.

As the “Crown newspaper“Last reported, Union had made an offer for an immediate transfer in Vienna. “We will definitely have another conversation, but you have to be realistic and say that it is getting more and more difficult. I believe – which I can also understand – that the player wants to take the next step at some point,” said Rapids managing director Markus Katzer, who described Grüll’s departure as “unlikely” at the beginning of the year.

Grüll moved to the Austrian capital from SV Ried on a free transfer in 2021 and has so far contributed 37 goals and 26 assists in 116 games. His market value is estimated at 3 million euros, which is only bettered by talent Leopold Querfeld (20) in the Rapid squad.
