In March, Jonathan Burkardt still ran for the DFB selection. Now the Mainz professional is ill. How long it will be missing is currently unclear.
Striker Jonathan Burkardt had to fit against TSG Hoffenheim in the 0-2 defeat of the 1st FSV Mainz 05-because of health problems. The Rheinhessen had announced in the run-up to the game that the 24-year-old was not available for a “recurrent infection”. The club did not announce details.
Burkardt had initially become fit again after his illness before the infection put it out of action again. “I’m not a doctor. The infection is back. We don’t know how long it takes,” said Mainz coach Bo Henriksen after the game. The Dane also pointed out the fundamental importance of health: “It is only football. It is important that Jonny comes back healthy.”
Burkardt has already scored 15 goals for his team this season, mostly leading her to the field as a captain. Most recently, he was even in the national team with national coach Julian Nagelsmann. His failure weighs heavily for the Mainz – sporty and human.
