FSV Mainz 05 is back in the black after two years of losses due to the pandemic. The Rheinhessen closed the 2021/22 season with a profit of 3.3 million euros after taxes. The Bundesliga club announced this at its general meeting.

In the previous year, Mainz recorded a minus of 10.2 million euros, before that it was 2.2 million euros. The total turnover in the past season was 115 million euros and thus almost 20 million euros more than in the 2020/21 season.

The club also sees itself on target in terms of sport. “I think we have a team that gets up again when they fall down. We’re ninth with 18 points and we still have three games this year to add a few more points,” said sporting director Christian Heidel.

The team and coach Bo Svensson deserve “a huge compliment” for that. There are only a few teams that have been in the Bundesliga for longer than Mainz 05. “We’ll do everything we can to ensure that we get another year after this season,” promised Heidel.
