Frosinone-Lecce 1-1: Cheddira and Krstovic scored

One point each for the two teams who want to move away from the relegation zone. Rafia had missed the equalizing penalty, the referee had it repeated and the guests scored

March 3, 2024 (changed at 5.23pm) – FROSINONE

The salvation match at the Stirpe between Frosinone and Lecce ends 1-1. A little point that does nothing but compact the battle for salvation after the victories in Verona and Cagliari. It is the hosts who leave with a bad taste in their mouths, for having allowed themselves to come back from a penalty (saved and then retaken) caused by a defensive gift and above all for not having completed a second half entirely on attack, with two goalscoring opportunities sensational not exploited by Kaio Jorge.

the choices

Di Francesco returns to the four-man defense compared to Juve, confirming Cerofolini in goal, as well as the tendency to line up in a mirror image of the opponent. Trust in the newly arrived full-backs Zortea and Valeri, in the middle of the field Barrenechea still on the bench, with Brescianini and Harroui alongside Mazzitelli. Cheddira is still in front after the goal against Juve, with Soulé on the right and Gelli on the left. D’Aversa finds Pongracic again at the center of defense and prefers Kaba to Blin on the right midfield; in attack Krstovic wins the run-off with Piccoli and Banda returns to the left wing.

Cheddira again

Already in the 4th minute DiFra had to review the game plan due to Harroui’s muscle injury. Inside Reinier who goes to place himself behind Cheddira, and Gelli widens to form a 4-2-3-1. The first opportunity belongs to the hosts in the 5th minute with Cheddira, a nice low shot aimed at the corner to the left of Falcone, who extends and sends it into the corner. Lecce came close to taking the lead in the 26th minute, after a ball won by Pongracic on the edge of the yellow-blue area: it passed through to Kristovic, who fired a right-footed shot but was blocked by Cerofolini. In the last quarter of an hour of the first half Soulé woke up: in the 34th minute he opened well from the outside on the wing for Brescianini, who put it in the center but couldn’t find the right shot; in the 41st minute the Argentine took off in the heart of the area with double feints until he found the opening for the left-footed shot rejected by Gallo’s body. But it is Cheddira who gives Frosinone the lead in the 2nd minute of injury time: a free kick at the far post that finds Romagnoli’s central bank, Falcone blocks the Moroccan short with his fists, who blocks his chest from two steps and scores his third with his left foot goal in the championship, second in a row from open play after the one against Juve. Frosinione’s seventeenth goal from a set piece out of 35 total, no team has a better percentage in Serie A.

Wretched Kaio

There were sparks immediately at the start of the second half, after a great opportunity for Lecce with Almqvist (but he was offside). In the 13th minute, Zortea’s naivety with a backward pass that was too short for Cerofolini which Krstovic pounced on and after anticipating it was knocked down by the goalkeeper. Rafia had his shot blocked by Cerofolini but had to be countered due to an early entry into the area by Valeri and/or Cheddira. Krstovic took the spot and this time made it 1-1. Vehement reaction from the yellow-blue team which hits the crossbar with a shot from Gelli to a beaten Falcone. Already broken plans when there is more than half an hour to go. There is a protest from Frosinone for a hand in the area by Krstovic (arm shown), then a great opportunity wasted by Brescianini who slips an easy right-footed shot from a few steps away (the weak foot); Brescianini also scores the 2-1 on goal after Cheddira’s pass but is offside. Shortly after the half hour mark, double double substitution: Barrenechea and Ghedjemis for Brescianini and Gelli; Blin and Piccoli for Almqvist and Krstovic. In the 35th minute, another defensive mix-up for Frosinone, with a misunderstanding between Okoli and Cerofolini: the result is a bell tower which Piccoli pounces on and sends him crazy. Last changes for Di Francesco who brings in two attackers: Kaio Jorge and Seck. Forsing of the hosts, who three times in a matter of seconds have the chance to take the lead again. The Brazilian wastes two badly, first on a nibble from Soulé (in the center of the area, chest stop and missed dribble) then on a pass from Seck which he doesn’t shoot from first and is blocked. Then it’s Seck who tries a left-footed shot from inside the area, just wide. The ending was incredible with Frosinone on the attack: Valeri brushed the ball in the center of the area for Kaio who turned his head very well but found the reflection of Cerofolini. Time is up but Guida takes one, two, three corners, until the final clearance by the Lecce defense.
